Galerie Napoleon was so cool!

The whole concept of having comic book pages in a gallery is so surreal and impressive. It makes me see the whole comic book world as so much bigger and… respectable.

Someday, it will be my pages up there :)

We went to Dupuis today!!

It was amazing, it was SO informative and amazing. Not only did we get awesome career advice, but now I have a whole list of new books to look up.

I can’t wait to read these books :)

Turns out ice skating is pretty hard when you’ve never done it before, but damn did I get good at pushing that penguin around!

Angouleme was so much fun!! It was amazing to see comics treated so differently than in the US… where the whole comic scene is a strange subculture associated with things like “nerds” “geeks” etc. Here in Europe it’s a family thing, it’s an everyone thing. People grow up with it and see it as a normal part of the culture.

The festival was great! It takes over the WHOLE town and makes for an amazing experience.

Herge was there being all cool.

And I got a statuette of the Festival’s mascot! He’s way too cute

also this happened. It’s a spaghetti frisbee! We made it fly.

Everything was so fun!!

We went to Valcluse yesterday (or at least that’s what I think it was called :p,) I managed to get some great advise from illustrator Paul Cox!

The town was a little empty (probably because it was so cold!) but the lake was beautiful. I hear there’s something in the water (algi?) that makes it look emerald green! It’s amazing.

I am in a magical place right now, sitting in a medieval cave with magical wifi and just in awe of the fact that I’m here. That I finally made it. Bonjour, Lacoste! You are beautiful and so much more magnificent than I was told.

The town is built on the side of a mountain, and it’s obvious. The streets are all stonework, the building made almost entirely of limestone and wood. The population is small - all of maybe 500 people live here (including the ~70 SCAD student and faculty,) and everyone is incredibly nice. Today we met a photographer as we wandered the streets, and there is a violinist that lives next to our Mac Lab!

The town is too small to have it’s own doctor. Just let it be said that the jobs of firefighter, plumber, and handyman are all held by the same person, however, we are really close to Bunnieux (there is a hiking trail that’s only about 5km and it’s gorgeous!) which is a bigger town with a bit more resources, and have access to Apt - an even bigger town that has actual art stores and an open air market on weekends that is AMAZING. I can’t wait to go back and get me some good ham and cheeses.

It’s winter so it’s pretty cold, but if you know me then you know I love the cold. There is something really magical about the atmosphere here. On the way into town, the cab driver told me a story about how when God made the world he gave something good to all the main areas, but forgot about the Mediterranean, and so to make up for his mistake he took all the most beautiful things and put them there. After only being here for a couple days, I can see why the French are so proud of these small towns - they are treasures! And the cultural history here is amazing - so many great artists have been to the towns close by looking to capture the ‘light’ of the area…

I can’t wait to learn and experience more of the area. The experience so far has been so beautiful that I’m seriously thinking of making it a point to live in a town like this at some point of my life. Just disappear (as if that’s possible nowadays!) into a small town in the french country side and fall in love with the surroundings.
